1. World Photography Day is observed on 19th August — World Photography Day is observed annually on 19th August. The day aims to pay homage to the beautiful form of art and to recognize the importance of Photography in the World. The day aims to encourage photography as both a hobby and a profession and to learn more about this craft. The day was initiated in 1837 when Frenchman Louis Daguerre and Joseph Nicephore Niepce invented the daguerreotype, photographic process. The operation of Photography began on 9th January 1839.
2. Redevelopment of three airports approved by Union Cabinet — On 19th August 2020, the Union Cabinet approved redevelopment of three airports in Jaipur, Thiruvananthapuram and Guwahati. The projects are to be developed by Adani Enterprises Limited. Rupees 1070 crores approved by Union Cabinet to handle the redevelopment projects. The three airports being developed are to be leased for operation, management and development in public private partnership. The Airport Authority of India (AAI) was established under Airport Authority of India Act, 1994. Airport Authority of India is a statutory body.
3. On 19th August, World Humanitarian Day is observed — World Humanitarian Day is observed on 19th August every year. The World Humanitarian Day aims to commemorate the involvement of aid workers in humanitarian services by risking their own lives. This year, the day is organized in a special way to fight against the deadly COVID-19. The day focuses to pay tribute to aid workers who involve themselves in humanitarian services by risking their own lives. It aims to create awareness, share ideas and encourage individuals in the photography fields. The United Nations General Assembly initiated the observation of the World Humanitarian Day to remember the demise of Sergio Vieira de Mello and 21 of his fellow humanitarians in a bombardment of the Baghdad Headquarters of the United Nations (UN).
4. Indian Akshay Urja Day 2020 — Indian Akshay Urja Day or Renewable Energy Day is observed on 20th August every year. Indian Akshay Urja is observed to mark the importance of renewable energy resources in India. India’s Government is aware of the importance of development or renewable energy sources to provide the state with a sustainable amount of energy. It is significant to promote awareness about renewable resources among people who are ignorant about the subject.
5. Report: India’s Population to be more feminine in 2036 — On 19th August 2020, the National Commission on Population submitted its report on population projections for the period of 2011-36. The commission was set up by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The report says that the sex ratio of the country us to increase from 943 (2011) to 957 (2036). Sex Ratio is number of females per 1000 males. According to the report, the population of India is to reach 1.52 billion by 2036 with reference to 2011. India’s population is expected to grow by 25% in 2036 as compared to 2011.
6. World Conference of Speakers of Parliament attended by India — On 19th August 2020, the Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla attended the fifth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament. The conference was organized by Austria and Inter-Parliamentary Union, Geneva with the support of United Nations. The Conference was conducted under the theme “Parliamentary leadership for more effective multilateralism that delivers peace and sustainable development for the people and the planet”. The first World Conference of Speakers of Parliament was held in 2000 in New York.
7. Results of Swacch Survekshan 2020 announced — Swacch Survekshn was first conducted in 2016. It rated 73 major cities. On 20th August 2020, the results of Swacch Survekshan, 2020 was released. For the 4th consecutive time, Indore, Madhya Pradesh bagged the cleanest city in the country. It was followed by Surat of Gujarat and Navi Mumbai of Maharashtra. Varanasi bagged the best “Ganga Town” in the survey. Mysuru won the award of cleanest city in India. The survey was held by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.
8. 20th August is celebrated as Sadbhavna Diwas — Every year on 20th August, the birth anniversary of Rajiv Gandhi is celebrated as Sadbhavna Diwas or Harmony Day. This year on 20th August 2020, we are going to celebrate the 76th Birth Anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. The Indian National Congress instituted Rajiv Gandhi Sadbhavna Award in 1992, a year after his death. Rajiv Gandhi was the youngest Prime Minister of India at the age of 40 years. In lieu of paying tribute to his vision for India, on this occasion contribution to society betterment are made.
9. In Ayodhya, construction of Ram Mandir begins — The Ram Janmbhoomi Teerth Kshertra on 20th August 2020 tweeted that the construction of Ram Mandir has begun. Engineers of CBRI Roorkee, IIT Madras and L & T  have started testing the soil of the Mandir site. The construction of Ram Mandir is likely to be completed in next 36 to 40 months. Iron will not be used in construction of the temple.
10. Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh states that Government Jobs are only for Children of State — Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan recently tweeted that the Madhya Pradesh Government Jobs will now only be given to the children of State.
